Animal Enrichment Project

In the 2025 fall semester at FSU, I took a course called Interspecies Sculpture: Toys for Animals, where we spent the entire semester researching, designing, planning and building enrichment toys for animals at the Jacksonville Zoo. I was lucky to be placed in a group with my friends Caroline Kynoch and Lucas Gonzales and together we made two sculptures using salvaged materials - an abacus inspired feeder for macaws and an interactive perch for various arboreal birds in the Emerald Forest Aviary. It was an absolute pleasure working alongside my friends, I could not have asked for better people to work with and go through the trials and tribulations of this project together. I learned so much in relation to design, fabrication, proper use of tools, and doing things the right way rather than the fast or easy way thanks to our professor Rob Duarte.
