Young naive and overly ambitious 18 year old Rose decided she wanted to build a house, so she did. This project started in the summer of 2019 and slowly progressed until I moved in, August of 2023. My dad and I built this house together, mostly working on the weekends as he was working full-time and I was a full-time student with a part-time job. It was a long, painful, grueling, tiring, and ultimately extremely rewarding project. Below you will see process pictures from the beginning to it's current state (yes there are still things that need to be finished). It's 640 square feet including the outdoor deck and lofted bedroom. We used as much reclaimed materials as possible, including kitchen cabinetry, windows, doors, wood flooring, tile flooring, interior wood trim, appliances etc.
The staircase is my favorite part of my house, we built it out of a hickory tree that fell down in my grandparent's yard. We got the wood milled and had to wait years for it to dry. The carriage, risers, treads, nosing, and molding are all built out of one single tree.
